Report Insurance Fraud
If you suspect you've discovered insurance fraud, you can report it safely, easily and anonymously in most cases — and help lower the cost everyone pays for fraud. Here are several ways...
Fraud bureau
New York State has an Insurance Frauds Bureau and they provide valuable information and links to related topics.
Insurance company
Contact the insurance company you think was defrauded. A few insurers sponsor their own tollfree hotlines. Call or write if the company doesn't have a hotline.
National Insurance Crime Bureau
Call the toll-free hotline of the National Insurance Crime Bureau — 1-800-835-6422. The NICB is operated by the insurance industry to investigate insurance crimes involving property and casualty insurance, including auto insurance, liability insurance, workers compensation and homeowners insurance.
Medicaid & Medicare
If you think you've discovered a scheme to bilk this federal health program, call 1-800-447-8477 or click here for Medicaid information and here for Medicare information. You can also report Medicaid and Medicare fraud by e-mail.
Social Security
If you think you've discovered a scheme to bilk this federal health program, call 1-800-269-0271 or get more information online.
Reporting a medical provider
Also report suspected swindles to the appropriate NY medical board (NYSED or NY Department of Health) or chiropractic board, which oversee medical providers within New York.
Patience is a Virtue
Thanks for helping control insurance scams. Also remember that fraud investigations are confidential, and may take months or even years to complete. So... please be patient while officials look into your hot tip.
